Background: More than half of the world's population is influenced by Helicobacter pylori infection. The infection is commonly obtained during childhood but may stay asymptomatic, with long-term clinical consequences such as gastritis, peptic ulcer illness, and stomach cancer. Objective: To determine the prevalence rate of Helicobacter pylori infection and related variables such as age, gender, residency, blood group, Rhesus factors and previous infection among patients presenting with gastroduodenal disorders in Erbil city. Patients and Methods: Out of 240 blood samples from patients with gastroduodenal disorders admitted to Rzgary Teaching Hospital in Erbil, Iraq from July to August 2019 were collected and screened for anti-Helicobacter pylori antibodies by rapid immunochromatographic assay, and blood groups of patients were determined by using hemagglutination test. For each study subject, a questionnaire sheet was prepared and used. Results: The overall prevalence rate of Helicobacter pylori infection among 240 patients with gastroduodenal disorders was 128 (53.3%). A significant relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and gender (male 43.75% and female 59.72%) was recorded (P<0.05). The highest rate of Helicobacter pylori infection was founded among the age group over 50 years, but there were no significant differences between them (P>0.05). Prevalence was significantly higher among rural areas (60.4%) than the urban areas (48.6%) (P<0.05). There was a significant association between Helicobacter pylori infection and ABO blood group phenotypes (P<0.05), but there is no significant association between Helicobacter pylori infection and the type of Rhesus factor (P>0.05). Prevalence was significantly higher among the previous infection (78.5%) than non-previous infection (23.6%) (P<0.05). Conclusion: We found that in Erbil city, the seropositivity of anti-Helicobacter pylori antibody was high among patients with the gastroduodenal disorder. The high prevalence of Helicobacter pylori was founded in the women, elderly, rural area, O blood group, positive Rhesus factor and patients with the previous infection.

Background: Adenocarcinoma is one of the most common causes of Gastric cancer related deaths worldwide. Helicobacter pylori is the causative agent of most cases of gastritis, it can cause chronic active gastritis and known as a risk factor for the development of gastric cancer. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of H. pylori among patients with symptoms of dyspepsia and other gastritis related symptoms and its association with adenocarcinoma.Methods: This study was carried out during the period of January 2018 to October 2019 with a total of 227 patients with gastritis related symptoms. The presence of H. pylori was detected by Rapid Urease Test (RUT) and histo-pathological tests using biopsy specimens. Statistical Analysis was done by using Chi-square test. P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.Results: From the total of 227 patients with gastritis related symptoms, 26 cases (13.61%) were diagnosed with adenocarcinoma. Their ages were between 13 and 90 years with mean of 47.81± 18.23. The result showed that low severity prevalence of H. pylori was highest (111 cases) compared to 17 and 63 cases for high and moderate severity, respectively. Comparison between positive low, moderate, and high H. pylori cases for rapid urease test was highly significant (P<0.000). The results showed no association between H. pylori severity across various age groups and gender. Moreover, goodness of fit test for metaplasia, activity, glandular atrophy, and endoscopic finding across severity status of H. pylori showed highly significant. Four composite categorized groups were initiated based on positive/negative prevalance of H. pylori and adenocarcinoma status. Results revealed statistical significance between combination of H. pylori and adenocarcinoma with inflammation, lymphoid aggregate, metaplasia, activity of neutrophils, glandular atrophy, rapid urease test, and endoscopic findings.Conclusion: Histopathology tests are reliable diagnostic tools for the detection of H. pylori. Data showed that H. pylori was seen more in middle age patients with mucosal lymphoid follicle formation and more than one third of patients with adenocarcinoma. Therefore, screening of these infections is an important strategy for preventing gastric adenocarcinoma.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a spiral-shaped pathogenic bacterium found on the human gastric mucosa, Warren and Marshall isolated H pylori for the first time in 1982. It is one of the most common worldwide human infections [1]. H. pylori play a vital role in the development of chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, gastric adenocarcinoma, and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma [2]. The current study included (120) pregnant women, (50) positive anti -H. Pylori Ig and (70) negative anti- H. Pylori Ig with pregnancy for first, second and third semester at mean age/ years 28.36 for the positive anti-H. Pylori and 26.17 for the negative anti-H. Pylori appeared that an alteration of zinc level in serum of positive anti- H. Pylori Ig groups was (48.904 ± 18.3486) (μg/dl) comparing with the negative groups (90.757 ± 9.2727) with the highly significant difference (P < 0.01). While serum copper levels of positive anti-H. Pylori Ig group was (μg/dl), (100.412 ± 23.8234), documented as normal highly significant (P < 0.01) compared to the negative anti- H. Pylori Ig group (114.971 ± 20.4995).In this study, the GIT disorder with anti-H. Pylori Ig positive groups were (32, 64%) and anti-H. Pylori Ig negative groups were (32, 45.7%), with significant difference (P < 0.05).
