Objective: The present study was designed to determine the seroprevalance of Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella, and cytomegalovirus, to investigate the frequency of low and high avidity results among pregnant women and to contribute to the data of our country with the results obtained.Study Design: In the present study, the hospital records of the women who applied to the antenatal outpatient of the Rize Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Medical Faculty during the first trimester between January 2016 and October 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Toxoplasma gondii, RRubella and cytomegalovirus IgM, IgG and IgG avidity results were evaluated.Result: IgM positivity was found to be 0.83% (29/3490) for Toxoplasma gondii, 0.92% (32/3459) for Rubella and 1.90% (65/3404) for cytomegalovirus; IgG positivity was found to be 33.64% (1174/3490) for Toxoplasma gondii, 90.70% for Rubella (3140/3459), and 99.17% (3376/3404) for cytomegalovirus. Avidity of Toxoplasma gondii was found to be low (3.70%) in 1 patient, borderline (11.11%) in 3 patients, and high avidity in 23 patients (85.18%). Avidity of cytomegalovirus was found to be low (1.75%) in 1 patient, borderline (3.50%) in 2 patients and high avidity (94.73%) in 54 patients. Avidity of Rubella was found to be low (4%) in 1 patient, and high avidity (96%) was found in 24 patients.Conclusions: In our study, although the prevalence of acute infection with Rubella, cytomegalovirus and Toxoplasma gondii was shown to be low in pregnancy in Rize province, serological screening tests for monitoring and informing high-risk groups that are particularly seronegative appear to be important.

Factors Predicting Rubella Vaccination among Pregnant Women in Japan: an Interim Report from the Pregnant Women Health Initiative

Following the 2018 rubella outbreak in Japan, this study aimed to assess rubella prevention measures based on the vaccination and immunization status of pregnant women in Japan. Our cohort study involved 3 local core hospitals in Yokohama City, and a total of 666 pregnant women were recruited between June 2018 and September 2019 to answer an online questionnaire. In total, 67.5% pregnant women had received rubella vaccination. The rate of rubella vaccination among pregnant women in the present survey was lower than that among age-matched female participants in a nationwide survey conducted in 2018. Overall, the study results showed that women in their 20s had a higher vaccination rate than those in their 40s, women who were nonsmokers before pregnancy had a higher vaccination rate than those who were smokers, and women who were aware that rubella may affect fetuses had a higher vaccination rate than those who were unaware of this. This survey elucidated multiple predictive factors for rubella vaccination among pregnant women in Japan. Our results confirm the recommendation that women considering pregnancy should be vaccinated for rubella.

Infections during pregnancy are one of the causes of morbidity and mortality for mother and fetus. TORCH are the microorganisms that cause congenital infections. Prevention and treatment of TORCH infection is very important for maternal and child health. In this study, we aimed to determine the seroprevalence of these infections among pregnant women. Material and Methods: Laboratory data of 1371 pregnant women were evaluated retrospectively. Toxoplasma, Rubella and Cytomegalovirus IgM and IgG antibodies were tested by the carbonylmetalloimmunoassay method. Results: The ages of pregnant women whose laboratory data were examined, varied between 17 and 47, and the mean age was 30.1 ± 5.2. Positive Toxoplasma IgG antibody was found 36.3%, while 1.0% were positive for the Toxoplasma IgM antibody. Rubella IgG seropositivity was found 94.3%, and Rubella IgM was found 0.7%. CMV IgG and IgM positivities were detected in 94.1% and 0.9% respectively. Conclusion: Detection of antenatal risk groups is an important step in the prevention of congenital syndromes. Therefore, it is very important to know the seropositivity rates of that region. The common population screening may contribute to the prevention of congenital infections due to TORCH agents. Toxoplasma gondii screening can be recommended because the prevalence is not high. CMV screening is not significant due to high seroprevalence. High anti-rubella IgG seropositivity shows that pregnant women in this region have high immunity levels.
