A community-based forum, Forum Pengurangan Resiko Bencana (FPRB), or Forum of Disaster Risk Reduction was established to accommodate and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize disaster management according to local capacity. However, evaluation of disaster preparedness among FPRB members is rarely done. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the disaster preparedness and level of Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge among FPRB members in Bantul. A descriptive study was conducted with a cross-sectional design. Participants (n=77) were members of FPRB in Poncosari sub-district, Srandakan district, and Girirejo sub-district, Imogiri district, Bantul Regency. The survey was undertaken using the modified Disaster Preparedness Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI)-UNESCO 2006 questionnaire and modified BLS American Heart Association (AHA) 2015 questionnaire. Univariate analysis was utilized to analyze data. Overall, the majority (52%) of disaster preparedness levels among FPRB members was categorized as strong level (median = 29). Related to the disaster preparedness aspect, 89% had good disaster knowledge, followed by resource mobilization (75%), urgent plan (60%), and early warning (53%). The median score of BLS knowledge was 5.38 (min-max = 2-9). Most of the participants (56%) had a good level of BLS knowledge. This study highlights that the disaster knowledge aspect is indicated as a highly familiar aspect while the early warning aspect is identified as a low familiar one. This study assists policymakers to develop a strategic plan to promulgate further disaster and first aid training in the community setting.

The Government of Indonesia through Ministry of Social Affairs launched the Disaster Preparedness Area Program (Kawasan Siaga Bencana or KwSB) in 2019 to build community preparedness for natural disasters. This program is a forum for early community-based disaster management synergy with an integrated approach that involves various stakeholders in areas with high risk of natural disasters. Meanwhile social reality exposes that historically, people living in areas prone to natural disasters have had their own local institutions and knowledge on dealing with natural disasters. Several research results indicated there is a gap between the government programs and the social realities in society. Accordingly, this research will identify the consequences of the KwSB Program on existing local institutions in the community before this program was launched. That very problem is answered through qualitative approach with data collected from literature studies, observations, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Furthermore, the collected texts and narratives are analyzed by categorization and then comparing the existence and actions of local institutions before and after the KwSB Program. The results show that there are consequences due to the presence of the program on the social reality of local institutions, especially in the reconfiguration of social networks in the community.

This study aims to determine the level of disaster preparedness among the teachers of SMA Negeri 1 Palas in South Lampung. Palas is located near the Anak Krakatau. This area has high disaster risks, either from Anak Krakatau eruption, earthquake, or tsunami. That is why a study of disaster preparedness is needed. This research uses quantitative research methods. Data collection techniques used a Psychological First Aid questionnaire (PFA questionnaire). Psychological First Aid is widely used for psychosocial support in disaster preparedness. The research subjects were 30 teachers. The data analyzed with descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the results of the research, it shows that the teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Palas understand about giving Psychological First Aid as a disaster preparedness support quite well, showed with the frequency of high category of 47%, the frequency of moderate category of 50%, and the frequency of low category of 3%. Meanwhile, it showed that there were the teachers’ understandings about 1) providing direct care of the Psychological First Aids, with the frequency of high category of 80%, the frequency of moderate category of 20%, and the frequency of low category of 0%; 2) high-risk people identification of the Psychological First Aids, with the frequency of high category of 63%, the frequency of moderate category of 37%, and the frequency of low category of 0%; and 3) design follow up of the Psychological First Aids, with the frequency of high category of 73%, the frequency of moderate category of 20%, and the frequency of low category of 7%.
