Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest biodiversity in the world. Forests are very diverse flora habitats. One of them is the diversity of understorey plants found in the Pondok Buluh Education and Training Forest Simalungun, North Smatra. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of understorey vegetation species found in the Pondok Buluh Education and Training Forest. This research method is by means of analysis of understorey vegetation with a size of 2x2 m with a total of 45 plots. There are 30 species of understorey found in the Pondok Buluh Education and Training Forest which consists of 13 families, namely Araceae with 12 species (40,00%), Arecaceae comprised 4 species (13.33%), Zingiberaceae 3 species (10.00%), Poaceae 2 species (6.67%), and Asteraceae 1 species (3.33%). Based on the use of understorey plants, 12 species (40%) are included in ornamental plant species, 12 species (40%) were included in medicinal plants, 3 species (10%) are included in handicrafts, 1 species (3.3) %) is included in the species of vegetable pesticide 1 species (3.3%) is included in the animal feed plant and 2 species (6.66%) utilization has not been identified.

A Physalis peruviana L. é uma planta amplamente utilizada na alimentação por proporcionar potenciais benefícios à saúde, associadas a melhorias nos processos fisiológicos, os quais estão relacionados à presença de importantes bioativos, como os fitoesteróis, polifenóis e vitaminas A e C e por ser considerado um alimento funcional natural tem sido alvo de interesse científico e comercial devido a variedade de compostos. O presente estudo buscou realizar de forma sistemática, o levantamento de evidências científicas que possibilitem a utilização desta planta no tratamento do câncer. A revisão foi composta por estudos originais, experimentais, publicados em periódicos nacionais e internacionais, que respondiam à questão norteadora: Quais são as evidências disponíveis na literatura acerca do potencial da espécie Physalis peruviana para o tratamento do câncer? Os resultados da pesquisa demostraram que a Physalis peruviana L. e seus derivados apresentou atividades citotóxicas contra vários tipos de células cancerígenas, por diferentes mecanismos e vias apoptóticas, como ativação de Caspases 9, 8 e 3, liberação de citocromo C, ativação da proteína p53 e ativação de Bax e Bcl-2, importante mecanismo de atividade anticancerígena, além da seletividade demonstrada em alguns dos estudos, possibilitando o desenvolvimento de alternativas terapêuticas mais seguras.

Cibodas Botanic Gardens (CBG) shall keep performing botanical exploration and ex situ conservation as part of the effort to rescue tropical montane rainforest plants, which tend to decrease in their natural habitat. Pasir Banteng and Pasir Pogor, Mount Gede Pangrango, were selected due to the potential threat and limited information on plants collected from these sites. The objectives of this study were to collect valuable plants, which have a conservation value and explore their potential usefulness. The study has begun by establishing a list of collectible plants. Then, the field activities were conducted by a plant collection explorative method along the hiking route, from 750 to 1,500 m asl, low-mid mountain as height as CBG, with no specific sampling point (found and collected). These plants have field treatment, were delivered to CBG, and would later be maintained in the garden. The study has obtained 31 species collected from Pasir Banteng and 20 species from Pasir Pogor. There were 35 families, with Orchidaceae being the most collectible. Some crucial findings were nine species included as least concern (LC) and a species as endangered (EN), based on their conservation status. At least six new species were identified as the garden enrichment of the CBG. In addition, at least fifteen species have potential utilization as construction materials, 29 species as ornamental plants, twelve species as medicinal plants, and some plants possessing multi-utilization. The results were significant in adding the collection’s richness and enhancing the conservation value of the plants conserved by CBG.
