The potential of lunasin extract for the prevention of breast cancer progression by upregulating E-Cadherin and inhibiting ICAM-1

Abstract: Background: Research in natural substances for their anticancer potential has become increasingly popular. Lunasin, a soybean protein, is known to inhibit cancer progression via various pathways.  The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Lunasin Extract (LE) on the expression of Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and epithelial cadherins (E-Cadherin) in breast cancer. Methods: In this true-experimental in vivo study, 24 Sprague-Dawley rats that were induced by 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthrace… Show more

“…A minimum of 100 tumor cells represented each location. The presence of survivin expression was revealed by brown staining of the tumor cell membrane and cytoplasm [15], [16]. Based on the strength of the brown color measured in each field of view using QuPath cell counter, staining intensity was classified as no staining (0), low positive (1+), positive (2+), and high positive (3+) [17].…”

“…The staining technique is followed by Primariadewi et al (2021) and Kusmardi et al (2021) (8,(19)(20)(21)(22). According to typical protocols, a paraffin slice of a breast cancer specimen was deparaffinized in xylol (Merck, Jakarta, Indonesia) and rehydrated in 96%, 70% absolute alcohol series (Merck, Jakarta, Indonesia) and distilled water for 5 minutes.…”
