The Possibility of Using Waste PET Plastic Strip to Enhance the Flexural Capacity of Concrete Beams

Abstract: The most widely used material after water is the concrete composite. However, it is commonly accepted that concrete is weak in tension compared to its compression, therefore, conventionally, it is usually reinforced with steel rebars. Recently, reusing of waste plastic materials has become a norm among researchers whom used it in different forms in improving some mechanical properties of the concrete such as impact and tensile strength. However, using PET plastic strips as a replacement of main steel rebars is… Show more

“…Finally, geopolymer concrete is a brittle material with low tensile strength, just like conventional concrete. This issue was adequately and extensively studied for traditional concrete by using steel bars and various types of fibers [160], while more research is essential in the case of FA-BGPC.…”

“…Therefore, globally the need for cement production has also risen with infrastructure development [2]. Generally, cement-based concrete is widely used in the building industry [3,4]. Moreover, the cement industry releases carbon dioxide (CO2) of 0.85 -1 ton during the manufacturing processes of one-ton cement which is part of global warming.…”
