“…In our previous study, we observed substance P immunoreactivity, a marker of nociceptive primary afferent fibers (Levine et al, 1993;Lawson et al, 1997;Todd et al, 2002), in many VGluT1-and VGluT2-immunoreactive axon terminals in lamina I and outer part of lamina II of the medullary dorsal horn (Li et al, 2003). We also observed that the plant lectin Bandeiraea simplicifolia I-B 4 , which has been reported to bind specifically to unmyelinated axons (Streit et al, 1985;Plenderleith et al, 1989;Plenderleith and Snow, 1993), often bound to VGluT2-immunoreactive axon terminals but rarely to VGluT1-immunoreactive ones in lamina II of the medullary dorsal horn (Li et al, 2003).
