“…The introduction of P. boerneri into Africa is believed to have been via pine scions imported into Zimbabwe and Kenya from Australia in 1968 (Odera, 1974), and genetic analysis by Blackman et al (1995) has confirmed an Australian link. Since then, P. boer neri has spread to a further six countries in eastern and southern Africa, mostly by the movement of infested nursery stock (Zwolinski, 1989), and also infests Pinus plantations in Brazil (Oliveira et al, 2008). Adelgids are related closely to aphids and occur only on conifers.…”
