“…These results showed that BAV-3 was able to replicate in guinea pigs and could cause consolidation in the lungs of infected guinea pigs that resembled the gross pneumonic lesions of calves experimentally infected with BAV-3. However, petechial hemorrhage, which was observed in the lungs of guinea pigs experimentally infected with HLJ0955 was not observed in calves experimentally infected with BAV-3 [7,10,13,18]. This suggests that the pathogenesis of BAV-3 is slightly different in guinea pigs and calves, but quite different in guinea pigs and cotton rats.…”

“…Similarly, calves experimentally infected with the Japanese BAV-3 by endobronchial inoculation also had elevated rectal temperatures and consolidation in the lungs [18]. Earlier reports also showed that intranasal inoculation with BAV-3 caused a few clinical signs of respiratory disease, and areas of consolidation or atelectasis were evident to varying degrees in the lungs of infected calves from the 4th to 7th day of infection at necropsy [6,7,10,13]. These results showed that BAV-3 was able to replicate in guinea pigs and could cause consolidation in the lungs of infected guinea pigs that resembled the gross pneumonic lesions of calves experimentally infected with BAV-3.…”

“…Bovine adenoviruses have been isolated from cattle with a wide variety of diseases involving primarily respiratory and enteric tissues as well as from apparently healthy cattle (3,12,13,14). Calf inocu]ation studies with different isolates and serotypes have produced responses varying from no elinicM reactions to severe reactions (5,7,12,13,14). The path-ologieM changes observed were confined primarily to the respiratory system.…”
