The occupational risk of Helicobacter pylori infection: a systematic review

Abstract: Our results show an occupational risk of H. pylori infection supporting the role of oral-oral, fecal-oral, and zoonotic transmission. Studies comparing specific occupational groups with adequate comparators may contribute to better identify groups at higher risk of infection. The recognition of this infection as an occupational disease would result in early detection and treatment, as well as prevention and control of its transmission in workplaces.

“…Occupational interactions is a well-known determinant of infectious disease transmission, [8][9][10] which explains why during the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries encouraged remote working as one of the strategies for containing the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. However, not all types of work can be performed remotely.…”

“…Occupation is a risk factor for Hp infection. A systematic review of 98 studies identified several high-risk occupational categories, including health professionals, especially among those working in gastrointestinal units, agricultural, forestry and fishery workers, as well as sewage workers, miners, and workers at institutions for the intellectually disabled ( Kheyre et al, 2018 ).…”
