“…Kellner accepted the view that the starch equivalent or fat-producing power of a feeding-stuff remained the same, even though the digestible protein content of the ration varied within fairly wide limits. Armsby (1922), by postulating his netenergy concept, supported this view. Halnan (1942) pointed out that the work of subsequent experimenters has thrown doubt on the soundness of this theory and that many workers have abandoned it and returned to the older conception of expressing feeding standards in terms of digestible nutrients and digestible protein.…”

“…For lime (CaO) he gives 20-27 per cent, of the ash (equals 0-152 per cent, in the milk) and for phosphoric acid (P 2 O 5 ) 29-33 per cent, in the ash (equals 0-220 per cent, in the milk). Armsby (2) quotes Van Slyke's average figure of 0-7 per cent for the ash in milk, and gives CaO as 20-0 per cent, and P 2 O 5 as 24-8 per cent, of the ash. Wynter Blyth(3) gives the following average figures:…”
