The new multi-directional polydentate ligand 2,4,6-(di-pyridin-2-yl-amino)-[1,3,5]triazine (dpyatriz) can discriminate between Zn(II) and Co(II) nitrate

Abstract: The new multi-directional polydentate ligand 2,4,6-(di-pyridin-2-yl-amino)- [1,3,5] , where each ligand binds to three Zn ions. Two of the Zn ions are five coordinated in a ZnO 3 N 2 chromophore (the trigonal bipyramidal geometry is completed by two monodentate nitrato ligands). The other two Zn ions are hexacoordinated in a ZnN 4 O 2 chromophore, formed by four pyridine-type ligands and a chelating, didentate nitrato ligand. The molecular structure of the free ligand has also been determined using XRD. For th… Show more

“…[14,15] Coordination compounds of Cu II and Zn II nitrate with dpyatriz obtained at room temperature and normal pressure in acetonitrile have been recently reported. [11,16] In this paper, new coordination polymers obtained from dpyatriz and various metal nitrates in acetonitrile at 105°C in a closed pressure tube are described, showing significantly different coordination networks, as well as uncommon supramolecular interactions. …”

“…[10] The same process, using Zn(NO 3 ) 2 , leads to the formation of the tetranuclear molecular species [Zn 4 (dpyatriz) 2 (NO 3 ) 8 ]. [11] In these products, the dpyatriz ligands have their three dipyridylamine (dpya) chelating units engaged in coordination. By contrast, the analogous reaction with Co II conduces to the dimeric complex [Co 2 -(dpyatriz) 2 [12] Despite the variety of coordination modes and structures observed, none of the complexes described so far shows the dpyatriz ligand using the N-donor of the triazine ring for coordination to a metal atom.…”

“…[20] Lately, the first crystallographic evidence was reported for such interactions, between the 1,3,5-triazine group of the ligand 2,4,6-tris(di-2-pyridylamino)-1,3,5-triazine [21,22] and chloride and tetrachlorocuprate [23] anions. In the course of research on the preparation of triazinebased coordination polymers [24,25] and their physical and catalytic properties, [26,27] the dendritic octadentate ligand…”
