The new HMI beamline MAGS: an instrument for hard X-ray diffraction at BESSY

Abstract: The Hahn-Meitner-Institute Berlin is operating the new hard X-ray diffraction beamline MAGS at the Berlin synchrotron radiation source BESSY. The beamline is intended to complement the existing neutron instrumentation at the Berlin Neutron Scattering Centre. The new beamline uses a 7 T multipole wiggler to produce photon fluxes in the 10 11 -10 12 photons s À1 (100 mA) À1 (0.1% bandwidth) À1 range at energies from 4 to 30 keV at the experiment. It has active bendable optics to provide flexible horizontal and v… Show more

“…24 Single crystal x-ray magnetic resonant scattering (XRMS) on TbMn 1−x Ga x O 3 were conducted at the 7 T multipole wiggler beamline MAGS, also HZB. 16,25 Physical characterization of the samples was performed on both single crystal and polycrystalline samples. The single crystals were aligned along their principal direction by x-ray Laue diffraction and cut in orthorhombic shapes with each face normal (within 2 • ) to a principal crystallographic direction.…”

“…Anomalous XRD experiments at ambient temperature were carried out at the MAGS beamline 17 at the Berlin synchrotron radiation source BESSY. The samples were mixed with Corundum ͑Al 2 O 3 ͒ reference powder 15 and placed into evacuated fused silica capillaries with a diameter of 500 m. Coarse-grain effects were avoided by sample rotation.…”

“…22 Spectra were collected in beamlines MAGS (Pr L 3 edge) and PM3 (Pr M 4,5 and Ca L 2,3 edges) by means of bulk-sensitive fluorescence yield (FY) and surface-sensitive total electron yield (TEY). MAGS beamline provides a focused beam in the energy range 4-30 keV, monochromatized by a Si (111) double-crystal monochromator, with a photon flux of the order of 10 12 photons/s at 10 keV.…”
