The Popular Scientific Book (PSB) on Odonata that inhabits the Tabanio Coastal Forest, Tanah Laut Regency has been completed, but its practicality has yet to be determined. The aim of the research was to determine the practicality of the PSB. The determining parameters were readability, applicability, and student responses which in this case are undergraduate students of the Biology Education Study Program. Readability was tested by three students using the one-to-one method. The implementation was tested by five observers through a small group assessment (on five students using the PSB) to get the expected implementation value and field test assessment (on 10 students) so that the actual implementation was obtained. Student responses were obtained from small groups (five students) and field tests (10 students). The result is that the readability of the book is categorized as Very Good, the implementation of expectations and actual implementation is categorized as Very Good, as well as the expected and actual responses from students Strongly Agree. With these categories, this PSB on Odonata is stated to be practical to use.Abstrak Buku Ilmiah Populer (BIP) tentang Odonata yang menghuni Hutan Pantai Tabanio, Kabupaten Tanah Laut telah selesai, namun belum ditentukan kepraktisannya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kepraktisan BIP. Parameter yang menentukan adalah keterbacaan, penerapan, dan tanggapan mahasiswa yang dalam hal ini adalah mahasiswa S1 Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi. Keterbacaan diuji oleh tiga mahasiswa dengan menggunakan metode one-to-one. Implementasi diuji oleh lima orang pengamat melalui penilaian kelompok kecil (pada lima mahasiswa menggunakan BIP) untuk mendapatkan nilai implementasi yang diharapkan dan penilaian uji lapangan (pada 10 mahasiswa) sehingga diperoleh implementasi yang sebenarnya. Respon mahasiswa diperoleh dari kelompok kecil (lima mahasiswa) dan uji lapangan (10 mahasiswa). Hasilnya adalah keterbacaan buku dikategorikan Sangat Baik, pelaksanaan harapan dan pelaksanaan aktual dikategorikan Sangat Baik, serta respon yang diharapkan dan aktual dari mahasiswa Sangat Setuju. Dengan kategori tersebut, BIP di Odonata ini dinyatakan praktis untuk digunakan.

Given their sensitivity to environmental alterations, odonates act as reliable bioindicators to assess the effects of changes in freshwater ecosystems and associated terrestrial habitats. The region comprised between Lario and Brianza (Provinces of Como, Lecco and Monza and Brianza - Lombardy, N Italy) is one of the most urbanised of the Italian peninsula and large parts of its territory have been heavily altered, especially at low elevation. Despite this pervasive anthropogenisation, the area is still characterised by a considerable variety of freshwater habitats, possibly harbouring rich odonate communities, which, however, have been never thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to produce the first commented checklist of the Odonata of this region, accompanied by distribution maps. The work is based on 12,093 records spanning from 1981 and 2022, derived from literature (289), revision of collections (42), citizen-science projects (1249) and unpublished data from the authors and their collaborators (10,513). Overall, fifty-five species occur - or occurred in the past - in the study area (20 Zygoptera and 35 Anisoptera). One species, Erythromma najas, was confirmed exclusively before 1978, while seven species (Lestes barbarus, Coenagrion scitulum, Aeshna affinis, Anax ephippiger, Somatochlora arctica, Sympetrum meridionale and Trithemis annulata) have been recorded only after 2000. Records referring to Chalcolestes parvidens and Sympetrum flaveolum were considered questionable and excluded from the checklist. A list of species for each protected site is additionally provided. This work highlighted the importance for odonates of Lario and Brianza Regions from a national perspective, in particular for species of conservation priority/interest, such as Sympecma paedisca, Oxygastra curtisii and Sympetrum depressiusculum.

Three new species for the odonatofauna of Piedmont (NW Italy)

Between 2020 and 2023, three new species of Odonates were recorded in Piedmont (NW Italy). Lestes barbarus was observed at an artificial wetland in the Turin Plain in 2021. Even though at least one individual was fresh, we cannot conclude that the species developed at the site. Subsequent visits did not permit to confirm the species. Coenagrion hastulatum was discovered at a peat bog in the NW Alps (Lac Falin, Valle di Viù) in 2023 and here reproduction was confirmed. This population is the fifth to be recorded for the central and western Italian Alps. Trithemis annulata was first recorded in Piedmont in July 2020, and subsequently, the observations of the species in the region rapidly increased, with a total of 66 records relative to 29 sites up to the end of 2023. These are distributed in most of the low-altitude areas of the region. The species was reported mostly in late summer, with only one site where the early spring records suggest successful overwintering. However, this needs further confirmation. The odonate list of Piedmont now accounts for 70 species, representing 73.6% of the taxa reported for Italy, and this makes Piedmont, along with Lombardy, the most odonate-rich region of Italy.
