“…Four psychosocial outcomes were assessed with the wellvalidated instruments: the clinician-rated Children's Global Assessment Scale (range: 1-100; Dyrborg et al, 2000;Rey et al, 1995;Shaffer et al, 1983) and the 40-item Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI; Bird et al, 1987;Del Rosario and White, 2005;Exline et al, 2004;Raskin and Hall, 1979;Raskin and Terry, 1988;Samuel and Widiger, 2008;Shaffer et al, 1983). Three NPI subscales shown to be elevated in substance-dependent populations were selected (Pagano et al, 2010a): exhibitionism (range: 0-7), entitlement (range: 0-6), and vanity (range: 0-3).…”

“…Emmons (1984) obtained a four-dimensional structure as a result of EFA applied to the data obtained from NPI, and did not reach the sufficient Cronbach's Alpha value in some dimensions. In the study they conducted, del Rosario and White (2005) achieved sufficient level of reliability only for the "authority" dimension on the NPI scale. Except for this dimension, they could not attain sufficient level of reliability in any of the remaining dimensions.…”

“…However, NPI (Raskin and Terry 1988), which is based on the GNS and is the most widely used measurement tool in the literature, has been used in many different cultures and studies (Foster and Campbell, 2007;del Rosario and White 2005;Tschanz et al, 1998;Horton, Tritch, 2014), including the sports science literature (Brown and Graham, 2008;Miller and Mesagno, 2014). Emmons (1984) obtained a four-dimensional structure as a result of EFA applied to the data obtained from NPI, and did not reach the sufficient Cronbach's Alpha value in some dimensions.…”

“…Raskin and Hall (1981) reported a strong correlation between the 40-item NPI with its 54-item version (r = .98). del Rosario and White (2005) reported a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of .80 with a sample of college students for the 40-item NPI. We used the 40-item short version of the NPI in the current study, which had a Cronbach's alpha of .76.…”
