The Most-cited Educational Research Publications on Differentiated Instruction: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: The amount of empirical research conducted in the area of differentiated instruction (DI) is overwhelming, necessitating this bibliometric analysis in order to produce an overview of literature on the topic. The objective of this study is to identify the characteristics of the most-cited educational research published on the topic of DI using science mapping and multi-dimensional bibliometric analysis methods. “…Overall, the analysis revealed that the scholarly contribution to the knowledge base on the topic of change management is widely distributed across the world despite the dominance of a few Western countries. These findings correspond with that of Punnakitikashem and Hallinger (2020), a bibliometric study in the area of healthcare for sustainability and Shareefa and Moosa (2020), a bibliometric analysis of the most cited publications on differentiated instruction, suggesting that change management research is also gaining attention among the global community of scholars.…”

“…The WoS database search using as a topic the terms "design-based research" AND "bibliometric" yielded no results, regardless of the period. This result indicated that a bibliometric research on DBR might be important in highlighting perspectives and trends about the subject (Diem & Wolter, 2013;Shareefa & Moosa, 2020). Therefore, the bibliometric mapping of the DBR theme can be used to evaluate the highly cited articles in this area, as they have a considerable influence in the field, and may even indicate future perspectives for researchers and educators (Zheng, 2015).…”

“…The Scopus database was used in tracing articles related to the value education model in this study. Scopus is the largest database that provides various citations or peer reviews from many disciplines and various forms of writing, both academic and non-academic (Salisbury, 2009;Shareefa & Moosa, 2020). Scopus has the advantage of loading sources 70% greater than WoS (López-Illescas et al, 2008).…”
