The Mössbauer spectrum of 57Fe in silicate garnets *

Abstract: AuszugDie Mößbauer-Spektren von 57 Fe wurden in 15 paramagnetischen Granaten (Pyrop, Almandin-Grossular, Andradit-Grossular, Spessartin, synthetischer Ti-Andradit) bei Temperaturen zwischen 4,5 und 681 °K untersucht. Show more

“…The isomer shift (IS) (measured with respect to c~ iron) and the quadrupole splitting (QS) vary between 1.29-1.30 mm/s and 3.54-3.56 mm/s respectively. These values are similar to those found on garnet samples of different composition by other authors (Amthauer et al, 1976;Luth et al, 1990;Geiger et al, 1992). For a comparison, the hyperfine parameters of a syntetic almandine end-member are also reported in Table 2.…”

“…Considering the contour of this spectrum, it is evident that it reflects at least two doublets. However, owing to the high correlation between the individual peak parameters (which is the consequence of the overlapping peaks), the four [35]. The doublet is associated with ferric iron in octahedral position.…”
