The molecular diversity analysis of Auricularia auricula-judae in China by nuclear ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer

Abstract: Background: For the crossbreeding of Auricularia auricula-judae, selecting the appropriated parents in hybridization is very important. However, the classification and diversity analysis of A. auricula-judae has been equivocal, due to the similarity of the fruiting body morphology and its susceptibility to environmental influences. For this purpose, the molecular diversity of 32 A. auricula-judae commercial cultivars in China was analyzed by using the nuclear ribosomal DNA intergenic spacer. Results: The compl… Show more

“…Edible mushrooms have been exploited for their nutritional and medicinal properties for centuries, and have been used as a significant therapeutic raw material in folk medicines [1]. Auricularia heimuer [2] is an edible and medicinal mushroom that has been widely cultivated for thousands of years in China [3] and is acknowledged as a healthy food. The fruiting bodies contain a high content of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and many other nutrient components [4].…”

“…Mushrooms of the genus Auricularia, commonly known as wood ear mushrooms, are edible and medici-Auricularia are currently the fourth most important cultivated mushrooms, after Agaricus spp., Pleurotus spp., and Lentinus edodes. 1,2 China is the largest producer; production in Malaysia is low because of a lack of technology.…”

“…Heterogeneity in the length of the IGS has been reported in fungi [ 10 , 11 ]. In addition, the possibility of using IGS regions in discriminatory analysis among intra-specific individuals of mushroom species such as Auricularia auricula-judae , Laccaria bicolor , and Lentinula edodes has been suggested [ 12 , 13 , 14 ]. Thus, it is thought that IGS region I information is also useful for the characterization of the heterogeneity of monokaryotic strains of A. bisporus .…”
