Dynamic windows allow user control over light and heat flow to save energy and maximize comfort. Reversible metal electrodeposition (RME) dynamic windows can uniquely tint to a color‐neutral privacy state (0.1% visible light transmission). The design parameters of transparent metal mesh counter electrodes for high‐contrast RME dynamic windows: high transparency, charge capacity and surface area with low haze, sheet resistance and cost are discussed, concluding that woven metal meshes meet these design parameters. Electroplated current is measured on an indium tin oxide electrode and two meshes with different wire spacings, showing the meshes’ cylindrical geometry enable them to draw more current per square area. The mesh material composition is analyzed to ensure cycling durability in a CuBi electrolyte by developing a transparent mesh with an inert core (stainless steel, SS), a thin Au coating, and a high charge‐capacity (1.5 C cm−2) CuBi outer coating. The study demonstrates that the films maintain a consistent Cu:Bi ratio and optical properties after 250 privacy cycles or 1500 cycles to 10% transmission, showing that the Cu and Bi coating is effective in keeping the films from becoming Cu rich with cycling. Finally, a 100 cm2 device with excellent uniformity and color neutrality is demonstrated.

“…Te Tangata Whai Rawa o Wēniti provided Don Selwyn with the opportunity to not only draw analogies between Jewish and Māori oppression but also, through numerous devices, directly comment on Māori experiences of racism and colonisation and creatively incorporate Māori worldviews and concepts. His choice of a play with anti-Semitic connotations makes Don Selwyn’s interpretation critical to ensuring it did not reinforce and maintain racist ideologies (Cox, 2006; Halio, 1993; Silverstone, 2011). Don Selwyn spoke of indigenizing Shakespeare saying that Te Tangata Whai Rawa o Wēniti “still kept the integrity and the concept of what Shakespeare was about.…”

This article examines Te Tangata Whai Rawa o Wēniti—The Māori Merchant of Venice (2002), the first dramatic feature film, performed entirely in te reo Māori (the Māori language). This adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice was based on Pei Te Hurinui Jones’ 1946 te reo Māori translation. Alongside close readings of the film, I drew on an interview with director, Don Selwyn, whānau (family) input and the literature. I applied Kia Manawanui: Kaupapa Māori Film Theoretical Framework, an analytical tool, to provide thematic structure. Don Selwyn’s interpretation disrupts hierarchies of language, validating not only the Māori language but Indigenous languages globally as eminently capable of cinematic expression. He draws out the dynamics of oppression and colonisation, providing transformative and disruptive images of Māori, Māori culture and tikanga (protocols). By expressing these features Don Selwyn successfully indigenizes the screen. I argue that the film is a taonga (treasure).

Tubal, Shylock, and the Myth of Venice

In Shakespeare’s comedy The Merchant of Venice, Tubal’s chief function seems to be to furnish cash for Shylock’s loan to Antonio. However, I argue that when Shylock approaches Tubal for money, Tubal does not confront Shylock but vows instead to establish conditions by which to convict the moneylender of intent to harm Antonio. For this to work, Tubal needs the connivance of the Duke, which gainsays one component of the myth of Venice that holds that the city-state’s legal system is above reproach.
