Abstract: With the ageing of the global population, the number of communitydwelling elderly individuals with chronic diseases is increasing (Sun et al., 2019;Zhou et al., 2016). It was reported that the four most common non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) among elderly individuals were cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and lung disease. The four major NCDs and a handful of other chronic conditions were responsible for two-thirds of mortality globally in 2016 (Nugent, 2019). In China, the Study of Global AG… Show more

“…The total score is divided into three categories: a score of 7 to 10 corresponds to normal, 4 to 6 corresponds to moderate dysfunction, and 0 to 3 corresponds to severe dysfunction in FF. The APGAR was applied in community-based elderly research (with Cronbach's α = .84) in Yuan et al's (2021) study. In this study, the Cronbach's alpha of the APGAR scale was .81.…”

In China, it is estimated that the proportion of empty-nest elderly individuals will reach 90% by 2030, which means that almost all elderly families will be empty-nest families ( 10 ). Empty nesters face the uncertainty of financial support and spiritual consolation ( 11 ).…”
