The McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire-Revised (MQOL-R). Psychometric properties and validation of a Brazilian version on palliative care patients: a cross-sectional study

Abstract: Background To assess the psychometric properties, including internal consistency, construct validity, criterion validity, criterion-group validity, and responsiveness, the Reviewed McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire (MQOL-R), into Brazilian Portuguese-(BrP). Also, to analyze the relationship of the BrP-MQOL-R with the scores on the Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and on the Numerical Pain Scale (NPS 0–10). Methods The BrP-MQOL-R was administered to a sample of 146 adults (men = 78). A team of experts tran… Show more

“…As to the psychometric goodness of the MQoL-R in terms of factorial structure and internal consistency, Italian data herewith delivered aligns with both the original study, 2 within which the English and French versions of the MQoL-R were developed, as well as with the subsequent Polish 3 and Brazilian 4 standardizations – which addressed either neoplastic populations only 3 or both neoplastic and general palliative care patients. 2,4 Therefore, when compared to such studies, 24 the present one provides, for the first time, psychometric evidence on the MQoL-R in a neurological population – mostly including ALS patients. In addition, this work outperforms, as to samples size, both the Polish 3 and Brazilian standardizations 4 – which included 140 and 146 patients, respectively.…”

“…Each patient was evaluated for the antimicrobial sensitivity/resistance by MIC assay (see also Table 1). To evaluate patients' QoL following our ozone therapy protocols, an updated form of the McGill QoL questionnaire was used [73][74][75] with patients before accessing the O 2 -O 3 -MAHT and at the end of the therapy cycle (within one week later). The questionnaire evaluated three parameters, from the minimum to the maximum, namely: the Pain Rating Index (PRI), including a scale from 0 to 78; the Pain Rating Index referring to Time (PRIT), with a scoring from 0 to 20; and the Present Pain Intensity (PPI), with a scoring scale of 0-5.…”
