“…Analysis of the chromosomes of C. solatus shows it to have a unique karyotype (Dutrillaux et al, 1988). All three species in the group have 60 chromosomes, but three structural rearrangements in two different chromosomes separate the karyotype of C. solatus from those of C. preussi and C. Ihoesti.…”

“…A cytogenetic study of the new guenon shows it to have 60 chromosomes, a number found only in the C. lhoesti and C . aethiops superspecies (Table III), and a karyotype closest to C. lhoesti and C. preussi (Dutrillaux et al, 1988; see below).…”

“…Thus, we have considered only euchromatin segments in our analysis. Chromosome homologies were established between humans, Cercopithecini 3,4,5,6,7,9,10,14,15,16,20,21 Kingdon (1997) and Groves (2001 and Macaca sylvanus karyotypes by pairing homologous chromosomes deduced from painting results (see Table 1 for details) and/or banding pattern homoeologies obtained from R-banding comparisons (Dutrillaux et al 1980(Dutrillaux et al , 1982(Dutrillaux et al , 1988bpresent work). After homologous chromosomal segments were identified, a character matrix was constructed (Dobigny et al 2004) based on the presence or absence of the following detected characters: first syntenic associations between these segments, corresponding to primary homologies (characters 1 to 36), then functional centromere position on each homologous segment (characters 37 to 74) (described in Figure 3 and Supplementary Figures S6 to S19).…”

“…lhoesti solatus, a recently described species of forest guenon [1,2], has been the focus of considerable interest [3,4,6,7,9,10], but studies of wild groups have been hampered by dense vegetation resulting in relatively few direct observations of these attractive monkeys. The opportunity to study these animals at close range provided by the CIRMF breeding group's being placed in a naturally forested enclosure was seized upon, to resolve questions on habitat exploitation, diet and some reproductive parameters.…”
