The purpose of the present study was to find out the relationship between cognitive distortions and forgiveness in romantic relationships of college students. The sample of the study was 340 college students who have a romantic relationship at a state university in Turkey. The purposeful sampling method was carried out in this correlational study. In order to collect data, three instruments were utilized: Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (ICDS), Heartland Forgiveness Scale and Demographic Data Form. The scales were put online to survey.metu.edu.tr and students having a romantic relationship were asked to complete the scale. In the present study, canonical correlation was conducted through SPSS 22 statistical package for data analysis in order to assess the relationship between two sets of variables: "Interpersonal Rejection", "Unrealistic Relationship Expectation" and "Interpersonal Misperception" are the subscales of interpersonal cognitive distortions on one set and "Forgiveness of Self", "Forgiveness of Others" and "Forgiveness of Situations" are the subscales of forgiveness on the other set. The study was significant because it might fill the gap in the literature and counseling field in terms of finding the relationship between two sets of variables to give a light to possible predictors in future research studying romantic relationships.

In this study we investigated the association between dysfunctional relationship beliefs and marital relationships of Turkish nonclinical married individuals. The Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (Hamamci & Büyüközturk, 2004), Dyadic Adjustment Scale (Spanier, 1976, and Marriage Life Scale (Tezer, 1986), which measure marital satisfaction, were administered to the sample of 190 married females and males. Analysis revealed that married individuals with low dyadic adjustment endorsed significantly more dysfunctional relationship beliefs than did those with high dyadic adjustment. It was found that dysfunctional relationship beliefs, including especially beliefs concerning being very close to others in their relationships causing negative consequences, have negative and moderate level correlation with the marital adjustment of males, and negative and very low level correlations were found between marital satisfaction and dysfunctional relationships beliefs. But mindreading beliefs were positively associated with the marital satisfaction of females. The authors aimed to examine the relation between shyness and dysfunctional relationship beliefs and to extend findings of previous studies to understand the role of fear of negative evaluation and self-esteem in shyness. Participants were 415 Turkish undergraduate students at Middle East Technical University. The participants completed Turkish versions of the J. M. Cheek and A. H. Buss (1981) Shyness Scale, the Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (Z. Hamamci & S. Büyükoztürk, 2004) the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (M. R. Leary, 1983), and the M. Rosenberg (1965) Self-Esteem Scale. Bivariate correlations showed that shyness had a significant positive correlation with unrealistic relationship expectations and interpersonal rejection. Fear of negative evaluation and self-esteem also had significant relations to shyness. A stepwise regression analysis indicated that fear of negative evaluation, self-esteem, and interpersonal rejection were significant predictors of shyness, and self-esteem was the best predictor. These results provided evidence of the role of distorted relationship beliefs, approval concerns, and self-evaluations in shyness for Turkish university students. The authors discuss the findings in terms of relevant literature and cultural issues.
