The interconversion of glutamic acid and aspartic acid in respiring tissues

Abstract: of glyoxylate, or oxalate, in the presence of acetylcoenzyme A. 8. It is suggested that during growth on oxalate, the oxalate, possibly in the form ofoxalyl-coenzyme A, is reduced to glyoxylate, which is taken to be the precursor of glycine and phosphoglycerate. The phosphoglycerate formed then enters established routes of biosynthesis. We wish to thank Professor Sir Hans A. Krebs, F.R.S., for his interest and encouragement and Mrs M. Jenkins for her skilled technical assistance. This work was supported by the… Show more

“…The supernatanit suspension fronm this centrifugation was centrifuged at 10.000 X g for 15 minutes andl the pellet x-as washed with a mixture of 0. 25 Mr sucrose and 0.37 alr imiannitol and resedimented by centrifuging at 10,000 X g for 15 minutes. The resulting pellet was carefully suspended in 0.5 M mannitol so that a minimal amount of starch was resuspended and then recentrifuged.…”
