The Influence of α-Tocopherol on Serum Biochemical Markers During Experimentally Induced Pleuritis in Rats Exposed to Dioxin

Abstract: Toxicity of dioxins is wide ranging. Amongst the organs, the liver is the most susceptible to damage by dioxins. Damage caused to liver cells results in promoting inflammatory processes. The aim of this work was to evaluate whether high doses of tocopherol will change the inflammatory response, monitored by biochemical indicators, by improving liver function in rats exposed to tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). The study was conducted on a population of female Buffalo rats. The animals were divided into the f… Show more

“…The initiated inflammatory process and the release of hormones accompanying this phenomenon impact liver metabolism, which itself impacts coagulation processes, activation of the complement system, and changes in the concentrations of metals such as Fe, Cu, and Zn. The latter are associated with increased synthesis of acute-phase proteins, which play a protective role in the management of these metals [ 7 , 8 ].…”

“…The animals were anesthetized with 35 mg/kg of 2% sodium pentobarbital intraperitoneally. 42 First, the femoral artery was ligated to induce hindlimb ischemia ( Figure 2A ). Briefly, a 1-cm incision was made where the strongest pulsation of the femoral artery was palpable, 43 , 44 then the subcutaneous fascia was retracted to expose the femoral artery.…”

In the control group, surgery including induction of hindlimb ischemia and creation of DFU was performed 4 weeks after diabetes induction.…”
