“…Due to sudden changes presented in the cross section of the beam, the opening edges are, for the most part, subjected to high stress concentrations, which inadvertently leads to induced transverse cracks in the beam; resulting in a significant reduction in the beam shear capacity and stiffness (Mansur 1998;Mansur et al 1999;Yang et al 2006). The external bonding of different materials, such as high-strength fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) or steel plates, has gained wide popularity in recent years to strengthen the RC structural (Hawileh et al 2012).…”

“…In 2000, experiments on eleven reinforced concrete deep bending elements under the action of concentrated load and uniformly distributed load were conducted by Liu Lixin [2] and other people, under the action of concentrated load the deep beams critical diagonal cracks craze from bearing chairs to loading point, as different shear-to-span ratios, there are three kinds of failures, diagonal compression failure, shear compression failure, diagonal tension failure; critical diagonal cracks craze from bearing chairs to a quarter of the beam top span, diagonal compression failure will arise when high-to-span ratio is very small, shear compression failure will occur when high-to-span ratio is very big; shear-to-span ratio is the main factor affect deep bending elements shear strength, while shear strength also increases with increase of longitudinal stressed bar reinforcement ratios, turn to be linear relationship [3].…”

“…The inclusion of an opening in the web of an existing beam leads to early diagonal cracking and significantly reduces the beam shear capacity and stiffness [1][2][3][4]. The reduction in the shear capacity depends on the degree of interruption of the natural load path that is the line connecting the load and support points.…”
