PurposeBased on the knowledge-attitude-behavior model, this study is aimed at investigating the influential mechanism underlying the purchase of green clothing by dividing this clothing category into green home-in wear and home-out wear within the context of green consumption. The mediating effects of perceived greenwashing (PG), perceived value (PV) and expected moral benefit (EMB) and the moderating effect of green clothing type (GCT) were examined.Design/methodology/approachThe data for this study were collected from 366 valid samples through a between-subject design survey administered in China. Moderation analysis and mediation analysis using SPSS/PROCESS macro were applied to test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe results indicate that consumers' level of environmental knowledge (EKL) not only has a direct effect on purchase intention (PI) but also has an indirect effect through perceived value and expected moral benefit. However, perceived greenwashing did not play a mediating role in this relationship.Originality/valueThe study's findings show a moderating effect of green clothing type (green home-in wear vs green home-out wear). That is, compared to green home-out wear, the relationship between expected moral benefit and perceived greenwashing for green home-in wear had a weaker negative effect on purchase intentions.

As future leaders, millennials are invariably expected to adopt sustainable behavior (SB) and contribute to achieving the 2030 sustainable development goals. The bulk of existing research on SB and young people have applied a west-centric lens that are not adequately comparative in nature. By adopting the dual approaches of quantitative study and planned behavior theory, this study therefore intended to compare two Asian countries’ Malaysia and China–millennials’ input on SB and to examine the moderating role of social media usage with regards to such behavior. An online questionnaire was administered to 419 respondents from Malaysia and 416 respondents from China. The data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). PLS-SEM results indicated that the direct effects between the variables, which included the impact of sustainable knowledge and interpersonal influence on attitude toward sustainability (ATS); the impact of ATS on sustainable intention (SI); and the impact of SI on SB in both models (Malaysia and China) were found to be significant with only a slight difference in the path coefficients between the two models. Interestingly, PLS-SEM results also discovered no moderating effect of social media usage in both Malaysia and China. The result of the study is helpful for policymakers in both countries to use as reference when focusing on vital elements, such as sustainability knowledge to promote SB among their respective millennials.

Plastic waste in Malaysia has become a serious problem since it affects not only the environment but wildlife animals and marine life too. These may cause by irresponsible people in dealing with their plastic waste management. Therefore, this study is conducted mainly to analyse the knowledge, attitude, awareness, and behaviours of households in Pasir Gudang towards plastic waste management in separating plastic waste before its disposal. A questionnaire was distributed among households who live in this area. The Binary Logistic Regression is used to analyse the knowledge, attitude, awareness, and behaviour of households towards plastic waste management. The results show that only the behaviours of households affect the plastic waste management in their households (p-value=0.04). The Hosmer-Lemeshow test indicates the model has a good fit for the data (p-value=0.480). Other than that, the Omnibus test (p-value=0.03) shows predictors have significant effects and gave improvement to the model. The Classification Table shows the accuracy of 67.4% of the households who separated plastic waste before its disposal. It is suggested to improve the result by adding more respondents to provide insight information on the independent variables, analyse further using other approach such as decision tree and parallelly acknowledge others on the importance of recycling plastic waste.
