The Influence of Causal Thinking with Scaffolding Type 2A and 2B on Optics Problem-Solving Ability

Abstract: The effectiveness of learning is affected by the assistance stages (scaffolding) provided. For example, the scaffolding of type 2a and type 2b supports the causal-thinking approach in learning. The type 2a informs the causal model, number of causes and effect, while 2b informs its argument sample. This research aimed to identify the effect of causal thinking process (CTP) with scaffolding type 2a and 2b on optics problem-solving ability (PSA) of students. The type of the research was quasi-experiment with the … Show more

“…These two facts indicate that the implementation of physics learning with a causalitic model is more effective than conventional learning that is usually carried out by teachers in these schools. The results of this study are in line with research conducted by Tamami, Rokhmat, & Gunada [8], Nurmadiah, Rokhmat, & Ayub [17], Abdani, Rokhmat, & Rahayu [18], Anshori, Rokhmat, & Gunada [19], Faisal, et al [7], as well as by Nurjamilah, Rokhmat, Sahidu, & Harjono [20] all of which show that the causalitic-thinking approach and causalitic-learning have a positive effect on students' PSA.…”

“…They also introduced nine patterns of instrument design in physics learning with CTA, with one of them in standard form and the other eight in scaffolding. Nurmadiah, Rokhmat, and Ayup (2018) proved that two of the eight forms of scaffoldings were effective in increasing the SHS students' PSAs on optics. They named the scaffoldings as Type 2a and 2b.…”
