This population-based time-trend study examines gun violence rates among males in Sweden during the years 1996 to 2015 and compares the rate in Sweden to other Western European countries. Data were collected from six registries and are presented descriptively per 100,000 inhabitants. The risks among males in Sweden increased considerably in both lethal and non-lethal gun victimization and perpetration. Among males aged 15 to 29 there was a five-fold increase in risk for victimization in lethal and non-lethal gun violence during the 20year observation period. In a comparative perspective the rate of gun homicide victimization among males 15 to 29 years was higher in Sweden compared to other Western European countries, while the risk for males over age 30 was at an average level. Based on the results of this study we conclude that gun violence among young males in Sweden has been on the rise and is at a high level compared to other Western European countries. The development of gun violence in Sweden can be characterized as endemic, prevalent in both population and socially vulnerable areas.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the main characteristics of adult male offenders convicted of rape or aggravated rape against adult females. We reviewed all convictions (n ¼ 21) based on court documents from the District Court, the Court of Appeal and information from the Swedish Tax Agency in Malm€ o, Sweden, between 2013 and 2018. The findings indicated that the most common offender characteristics were a single status, mean age of 33 years and foreign background. The rapes primarily occurred within a private setting while the victims (who were often younger and knew the offender) were unconscious. Although assumptions based on these results should be made with caution, our findings provide a clear image of the typical circumstances under which these rapes occurred. This study should be viewed as a first attempt to create a database of characteristics of convicted rapists. As more data are added, more sophisticated analyses can be performed and stronger generalizations may be made. Information of this kind may also be important for further research, classification of rapists in offender profiling, and case linking.

The Spanish scale to quantify or qualify bodily harm resulting from any unintentional traffic accident prior to 1 January 2016 is established by Royal Legislative Decree (RDL) 8/2004. This scale assigns points to the sequelae, which are converted into Euros using a table that is updated annually. The objective of this study is to develop a predictive model of sequelae points that will enable the estimation of compensation a short time after the accident. This will facilitate the calculation of the money reserve and rapid access to compensation for the injured party. To conduct this study, we developed a database with information from 999 individuals who had suffered car crash injuries which were evaluated according to the scale contained in RDL 8/2004 for medical experts. Predictive models based on logistic regression models were designed on this database. To choose the best model, we calculated Mallow's Cp. The use of hurdle models made it possible to predict the points received by an injured party within a relatively short period of time after the accident. Once these points are known, it is a simple matter to calculate the corresponding compensation. The prediction models developed provide an easy way to predict the compensation to be awarded to the injured party. These models use days of hospitalization, sex, age and the results of international scales based on the Abbreviated Injury Scale. These variables can be used soon after the occurrence of the crash.
