The incorporation of ICT in higher education. The contribution of ROC curves in the graphic visualization of differences in the analysis of the variables

Abstract: This paper has focused on the productive use of information and communications technology (ICT) by university students and its influence on academic performance. The objective is to determine whether a comparison of successful and non-successful students (in relation to academic achievements) versus the variables studied (linked to the process of ICT incorporation) can help us to establish contextual and behavioral patterns associated with good academic performance. This differential analysis is carried out by… Show more

“…Although a number of publications offer didactic views of receiver operating characteristics and their applications in medical diagnostics, very few exist in open literature specifically devoted to engineering students and issues relevant to engineers . The analysis and the results presented here offer a complete picture of the data analytic aspects combining the traditional approaches based on density and distribution functions and data science based ones.…”

Students perceptions of regarding the use of ICT on their academic work are positive (Russo, Zhang, & Fallon, 2015), which reflects on the time dedicated to using them to support their academic learning, being approximately half of their time of study (Faizi, Chiheb, & El Afia, 2015), the development of e-skills (Yousseff, 2013).…”

“…Pero, igualmente, algunos estudios han mostrado evidencia que las TIC pueden ser empleadas para mejorar la calidad y el impacto de diversos procesos educativos. (Balakrishnan, 2014;Cox, Knezek, Knezek, Ten Brummelhuis & Voogt, 2011;García-Valcárcel & Tejedor, 2012).…”
