AIm: Meningioma literature has many large surgical case series, which have been references of text books and neurosurgical practice. Many of those series were published when stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) was not so common or these series were in terms of World Health Organization (WHO) 2000 classification. In this study, we aimed to make an update to the current literature using WHO 2007 classification system. mATERIAl and mEThODS: Four hundred eighty-eight intracranial meningioma patients underwent open surgery in 2007-2013 and 449 of them were included in this study. All pathological specimens were re-evaluated in terms of WHO 2007 classification. All demographical and follow-up records and imaging archives were investigated by using our center's central automation system and National Central Population Management System. If records were not available or not adequate, investigators made phone calls to patients. Pediatric patients were excluded. RESulTS:Three hundred twenty-six female (76.2%) and 123 male (27.4%) patients were analyzed. Their ages ranged from 18 to 84 years (mean=51.6±11.9 years). The most common subtype of meningioma was meningothelial meningioma (51.7%), followed by atypical meningioma (20.3%). WHO Grade I meningiomas had statistically random localization distribution, but WHO Grade II meningiomas were more common in the convexity, parasagittal and middle fossa. Younger age was found to be significantly related with tumor recurrence or progression. Seventy-three (16.2%) patients underwent SRS and 64 (14.2%) patients underwent adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) after surgery. Convexity localization was found to be associated with recurrence, mortality and higher WHO 2007 grade.CONCluSION: Convexity meningiomas are associated with recurrence, mortality and higher WHO 2007 grade. Convexity meningiomas should be totally resected in order to achieve maximum benefit from surgery,

Background:The study was conducted to understand the clinical algorithm of intracranial meningioma. Correlation was done by clinical presentation with radiological features and histopathology .The stress upon to understand the necessity for a team-approach between Clinician, Radiologist and Pathologist and vice versa is emphasised. Aim: To correlate histopathology of intracranial brain tumours with the Radiological features. Methods: This is a retrospective study ofintracranial brain tumours, diagnosed by histopathology as various types of meningioma. All the relevant clinical data of the patients were searched from the ward records. The various Radiological features were collected. Results: The total number of intracranial brain tumours studied at during the 5 years period was 51 cases among which 25 cases were diagnosed by histopathology as various types of meningioma conclusively . Spectroscopy provides molecular information with regard to meningiomas and potentially aid in biopsy planning. Surgical resections were done as follows: 17 cases resected as Simpson Grade 1, 3 cases resected as Simpson Grade 2, and 2 cases resected as Simpson grade 3. Venous thromboembolism was seen in 1 patient . Seven patients underwent Stereotactic radiosurgery, among which four patients attended SRS after surgery. Conclusion: The Simpsongrading of resection of meningioma correlated the degree of surgical resection completeness with symptomatic recurrence. Stereotactic radiosurgery is a safe and effective treatment for benign intracranial meningiomas with or without surgical resection. Intracranial meningioma needs correlation between Radiologist, Pathologist and Clinician.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a relatively common and well-described condition, affecting approximately 1-2% of the general population. VTE can lead to significant morbidity and death via pulmonary embolism (PE). During the post-operative period, VTE occurs at higher rates due to natural thrombotic responses to injury and limited post-operative mobility. In general, rates of post-operative VTE are higher in patients undergoing operations for cranial and spinal lesions than for lesions of other types, a phenomenon that is not fully explained. Several studies have demonstrated that other risk factors for VTE include age, sex, ethnicity, hospital stay length, and coagulation state. Aggressive chemical and mechanical measures for VTE prophylaxis are indicated in the postoperative period to prevent the formation of VTE. Here we review the literature on VTE in brain tumor patients, with a focus on their etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prophylaxis.
