Background: Understanding the existence of a cycle, where psychological disturbances cause skin diseases and in turn, skin diseases cause psychological disorders, provides the basis for good dermatological practice. Objective: The aim of this case-control study is to examine the psychiatric morbidity of dermatological disorders in children and adolescents with no history of psychiatric disorders. Method: In this study, 502 participants (251 patients and 251 healthy individuals) were evaluated according to DSM-IV criteria. All participants were interviewed and evaluated using the Turkish version of the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia -Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-1 and STAI-2), the Childhood Depression Inventory (CDI), adolescent and parent forms of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-A and SDQ-P) and a questionnaire evaluating child's level of school success. Results: Our results indicated that the rates of general psychiatric comorbidity, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and adjustment disorders were significantly higher in the study group compared to the control group. The CDI, STAI-1, STAI-2, and SDQ (and subscales) scores were significantly higher in the study group. Moreover, psychiatric comorbidity was higher in inflammatory and allergic dermatoses compared to other dermatological subgroups. Having a dermatological disease restricts physical activity thus increasing the risk of psychiatric comorbidity. Conclusions: Investigating the education, attitudes, and awareness of dermatologists about psychocutaneous disorders might contribute to the development of new educational strategies and elicit appropriate biopsychosocial approaches.

<em><span lang="EN-US">Acne vulgaris (AV) is an inflammatory disease that caused by excessive activity in sebaceous glands and aggravated by Propionibacterium acnes infection. Synthetic antibiotics such as clindamycin are often used in the treatment of acne vulgaris, but its use can cause irritation, resistance, organ damage, and immunohipersensitivity. This study was performed to determine the antibacterial concentration of Lerek leaf ethanolic extract to P. acnes as involved in acne inflammation and pathogenesis. The phytochemical screening of the ethanolic extract of lerek leaf was performed using standard procedures. The extracts were tested for determining minimum inhibitory concentration value (MIC) using macrodilution method. Evaluation of its antibacterial effect to P. acnes growth inhibition was conducted using a plate count method with varying extract concentrations as follows: 4, 8, 16, and 32% w/v. The phytochemical analysis of the lerek leaf extract revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannin, alkaloid, terpenoid, saponin, and polyphenolic compounds. The MIC concentration of testing extracts against P. acnes ranged from 32% w/v to 16% w/v. The results showed that the extract at 32% w/v was obtained P. acnes survival of 1.71%. It can be concluded that the lerek leaf ethanolic extract is a potential antibacterial to P. acnes.</span></em>

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Akne vulgaris merupakan suatu penyakit kulit yang sering terjadi khususnya pada usia remaja maupun usia dewasa. Akne vulgaris dapat disebabkan oleh banyak faktor, dan kerap kali berujung pada skar atau bekas yang akan menganggu konsep diri penderita. Pada usia remaja, khususnya usia remaja akhir aktualisasi diri akan semakin tinggi sehingga dengan timbulnya masalah akne vulgaris akan sangat berdampak pada konsep diri mereka. Sehingga perlu dilakukan suatu studi mengenai gambaran konsep diri remaja putri dengan akne vulgaris di Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Airlangga Surabaya.Metode: Desain penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi dengan jumlah partisipan berjumlah 15 partisipan usia remaja akhir. Prosedur pengumpulan data diambil melalui catatan lapangan dan alat bantu voice recorder berbasis android. Analisa data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Colaizzi (1978).Hasil: Hasil penelitian yang didapatkan adalah 6 tema, yaitu perubahan gambaran diri, mempertahankan tujuan individu, konsistensi peran, gangguan harga diri rendah situasional, gangguan harga diri rendah kronik dan perubahan penilaian terhadap diri sendiri. Remaja yang mengalami masalah dengan akne vulgaris akan merasa minder dikarenakan skar akne yang mengubah struktur kulit remaja tersebut. Remaja cenderung akan menutupi skar tersebut ketika berinteraksi dengan orang lain sehingga remaja akan memiliki masalah harga diri rendah situasional bahkan harga diri rendah kronik yang akan mengubah penilaian remaja terhadap diri mereka. 4 dari 15 partisipan tetap menjalankan perannya baik sebagai mahasiswa maupun sebagai remaja. Remaja tetap aktif dalam kegiatan-kegiatan akademik maupun kegiatan non akademik meskipun memiliki masalah dengan akne vulgaris.Kesimpulan: Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa tidak semua konsep diri remaja putri dengan acne vulgaris mengalami gangguan. Dari ke lima konsep diri didapatkan bahwa remaja mengalami gangguan pada harga diri, gambaran diri dan identitas diri mereka. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat digunakan sebagai bahan penelitian lebih lanjut dalam menggali sejauh mana konsep diri remaja putri yang mengalami gangguan. Acne vulgaris can be ensued by many factors, and often leads to scarring or scars that will disrupt the patient's self-concept. At the age of adolescence, especially the late teens, self-actualization will be higher so that with the emergence of the problem of acne vulgaris will greatly affect their self-concept. Thus, it is necessary to conduct a study about the description of the self-concept of young women with acne vulgaris at the Faculty of Nursing Airlangga University SurabayaMethod: This research used qualitative research design of phenomenology approach with in-depth interview method on 15 late adolescent participants and was used field note as guidance. The data analysis used in this study composed into nine steps technique of Colaizzi (1978).Result: The results of this study obtained six themes: Alteration of body image, maintain individual goal, consistent with individual roles, disturbance of situational low self-esteem, disturbance of chronic low self-esteem, change in self-assessment. Adolescents who have problems with acne vulgaris will feel inferior because of the scar that changes the structure of their skin. Adolescents tend to cover the scars when interacting with other people so that they will have situational low self-esteem problems and even low self-esteem that will change the their assessment of themselves. 4 of the 15 participants continued to play their roles both as students and as adolescents. Adolescents remain active in academic activities and non-academic activities even though they have problems with acne vulgaris.Conclusion: From the results of the study, it is found that not all self-concepts of female adolescents with acne vulgaris are impaired. From the five self-concepts, it is found that adolescents experience a disorder in self-esteem, self-image and their identity. Therefore, the further research is expected to explore more about the extent to which the self-concept of female adolescent who experience disorder.
