Objective: To evaluate prevalence, types and severity of drug-drug interactions in paediatric outpatient department. Methods: An observational study was carried out in Shree Krishna Hospital (SKH), a tertiary care teaching hospital after obtaining Institutional Ethics Committee approval. In SKH outpatient prescriptions are uploaded on software "Solace" , and these online prescriptions were collected from IT department. Potential Drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) were identified by using Medscape drug interaction checker. The prescriptions were analysed for demographic characteristics, medical and detailed drug history. Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) were evaluated for total numbers, types and severity of DDIs. Result: Total 300 prescriptions with mean age 6.33 ± 5.24 years were analysed. Total 96 pDDIs were recorded. The prevalence of pDDI was 16%. Most common pDDI was Valproic acid + Acetaminophen. There were 61 (63.54%) DDIs of pharmacokinetic, 24 (25%) pharmacodynamic and 11 (11.46%) had an unknown mechanism. Out of all interactions, 41 (42.71%) were of minor, 48 (50%) were of moderate and 07 (7.29%) were of severe in nature. The number of drugs prescribed and the occurrence of DDIs were significantly associated. (p<0.001). Background:This observational, cross-sectional study investigates the impact of medication usage, physical activity (PA) and nutritional status on musculoskeletal health (MSH) in males and females aged 40-65 in the population of a post conflict, developing country.Methods:Bone Mineral Density (BMD), T-score and Z-score at distal forearm regions (measured by DEXA scan), together with isometric hand grip strength (dynamometer) were evaluated in a total of 162 subjects (53 Males, average age 55.15±7.12 and 109 Females, 54.27±5.1). Additionally, bio-anthropometric assessments, medication usage, PA level and nutritional status were assessed.Results:Significant differences (p<0.05) were found in total subjects Body Mass Index (BMI), PA, BMD, T-score and Hand grip between genders. 42% of total participants met the diagnostic criteria of, out of which 6.8% with T-score below -2, while no cases of Osteoporosis was recorded. N05B Anxiolytics and A02B Drugs for peptic ulcer and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease medication groups consumption turned to have no significant differences (p>0.05) in BMD, T-score, and hand grip in total population, except for A02B where p<0.05 were found in Hand grip, as well as between female consumers and no consumers in all variables. Meanwhile, in total subjects consuming H02AB Glucocorticoids p<0.05 were observed in BMD and T-score, but not on hand grip.Conclusions:This study shows a low risk for MSH problems amongst the studied population in Kosova, while the consumption of H02AB medication group in both genders and A02B in females only for extended periods might effect MSH, therefore appropriate benefit/risk assessment should be made before prescribing these medications, notwithstanding age, gender, PA or nutritional status.

Objective: Drug -drug interactions (DDI) is a permanent risk in patients with complex therapeutic regimens. Drugs commonly prescribed in Neurology contribute for most of the potentially hazardous DDI. The present study was undertaken to identify the DDI and its predictors among the patients admitted in Neurology ward. Material and Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted from January -May, 2015 among the patients admitted in Neurology wards. All the patients on at least two drugs were enrolled. Drug data was analyzed for interactions using the standard drug interaction software. Results: Among 110 enrolled patients, 289 hazardous DDIs were identified, of which 261 were potential DDIs (pDDIs). Atorvastatin and Pantoprazole (14%), Aspirin and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (13%), and Atorvastatin and Clopidogrel (13%) were the most commonly interacting pairs. Commonly encountered antiepileptic pairs that led to pDDIs were Phenytoin and lorazepam (7%) and clobazam and levetiracetam (7%). Majority of interactions were of moderate (72%), followed by major (20%) severity. 69% of DDIs required therapeutic monitoring and 19% required therapeutic modification. Number of prescribed drugs, length of hospital stay, co-morbid conditions and number of anti-epileptic drugs prescribed were identified as the predictors for the development of DDIs [p < 0.05]. Conclusions: 46.3% of the patients admitted in Neurology wards were prescribed with drugs that could lead to DDIs. Majority of the DDIs were moderate in severity and required therapeutic monitoring. Hence, intense monitoring programme needs to be initiated in every hospital for early detection and prevention of DDIs.
