Potential Drug-Drug Interactions among Prescribed Drugs in Paediatric Outpatients Department of a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate prevalence, types and severity of drug-drug interactions in paediatric outpatient department. Methods: An observational study was carried out in Shree Krishna Hospital (SKH), a tertiary care teaching hospital after obtaining Institutional Ethics Committee approval. In SKH outpatient prescriptions are uploaded on software "Solace" , and these online prescriptions were collected from IT department. Potential Drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) were identified by using Medscape drug interaction … Show more

“…DDIs are highly prevalent not only in outpatients but also in hospitalized patients especially in ICU [6,7], oncology [8][9][10] and hematology [11,12]. The prevalence of pDDIs varies from 16% to 96% in different studies [13][14][15][16]. Given the lack of investigation on the epidemiology of DDIs in the outpatients of Jinshan Hospital, Fudan University, the present study aimed to gain insight into the real-world prevalence of pDDIs in outpatient prescriptions and classify the severity of the interactions.…”

“…As IMs podem ocorrer a nível farmacocinético ou farmacodinâmicos [4]. No que diz respeito às interações que resultam de efeitos farmacocinéticos, elas ocorrem quando um dos fármacos é capaz de modificar a absorção, distribuição, biotransformação e eliminação do outro fármaco.…”

“…Potential DDIs (pDDIs) are those interactions, which can be predicted from the known pharmacological actions of the drugs and have the possibility to alter the effects of the co-administered drug. [ 7 8 ] Conversely, all pDDIs may not necessarily contribute to clinically significant or actual DDIs. However, pDDIs may need closer monitoring.…”

“…However, pDDIs may need closer monitoring. [ 8 ] Various pharmacoepidemiological studies conducted in the different parts of the world in various study settings, study design, duration, and diverse population and with various DDI assessment tools have reported the prevalence rates of pDDIs, varying from 5% to 91%. [ 9 10 ]…”
