“…Furthermore, better left ventricular performance was noted during the whole ex perimental course (60 min of hypoxia and 45 min of normoxic perfusion). Previous dose-response studies in our laboratory found that trilinolein at a concentration of 10~7 mol/ 1 showed the most satisfactory results for myo cardial preservation [10,11], so we chose to use a single concentration ( 10~7 mol/l) in sub sequent experiments examining the antioxi dant effect of trilinolein which also revealed similar results [12]. Trilinolein was effective as pretreatment only according to our data (unpublished) from previous experiments which showed that trilinolein perfused during hypoxia did not provide significant myocar dial protection.…”

“…a triacylglycerol recently puri fied from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Panax pseudo-ginseng (Burk F.H. Chen), has been found to have potent antioxi dant activity and myocardial protective ef fects [10][11][12], Data concerning the changes in SOD activity during different periods ofhypoxia with or without subsequent normoxic perfusion are inconclusive. This study was undertaken to examine the changes in the activity of the two forms of SOD in an iso lated rat heart model during different modes of hypoxic or hvpoxic/normoxic perfusion and to determine whether the natural plant antioxidant, trilinolein, affects left ventricular performance and the changes in SOD during these procedures.…”

“…In line with these facts, it was found that the oral administration of D-003, a mixture of very long chain FA isolated from sugarcane wax, inhibited tissue and lipoprotein LP in experimental models and humans (Castaño et al, 2003). Also, medium and long chain saturated and unsaturated FAs have inhibited in vitro LP (Henry et al, 2002, Zhang et al, 2002 showing oxygen free radical scavenger activity (Chan et al, 1996). Therefore, this study was undertaken to assess whether D-004 displayed in vitro antioxidant effects.…”

“…LCL method has frequently been used to monitor on-line detection for lipid hydroperoxides in connection with HPLC what has allowed the quantification of various hydroperoxides at picomole level (Chan, Cheng, Tsao, Niu, & Hong, 1996;Henderson, Slickman, & Henderson, 1999;Kondo, Kawai, Miyazawa, & Mizutani, 1993;Miyazawa, 2000;Ohba, Kuroda, & Nakashima, 2002;Sanchez-Moreno & Larrauri, 1998). In all reported cases the application of LCL shifted the detection limits of hydroperoxide to the level of single picomoles, the sensitivity unreachable by the other analytical methods (Navas & Jimenez, 1996).…”
