The improvement of insulin resistance and the antioxidant capacity in type 2 diabetes mellitus rats with whiteleg shrimp shell powder (Litopenaeus vannamei)

Abstract: As estimated having an increased incidence of about 50% until 2040, the diabetic condition could be augmented primarily from astaxanthin contained in carotenoids. This research examines and compares the influence of WSSP and AST complement on Homeostatic Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) level and Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) induced high-fat diet streptozotocin (HFD-STZ) in T2DM rats. WSSP 0.89gr/200gr/d (X1) and 1.77gr/200gr/d (X2) groups; and AST supplement 0.09mg/200gr/d (X3) groups were co… Show more

“…The use of astaxanthin in DM has been studied by many researchers (Feng et al, 2020;Landon et al, 2020;Ahriyasna et al, 2021;Wisaksono et al, 2021). However, the reproductive aspect in such studies has not been evaluated.…”

“…Moreover, an increasing amount of fatty acids circulating in vessels is generated due to oxidative stress, which positively will produce large amounts of Nitric Oxide (NO). This overproduction of NO presence may induce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress by reducing the level of Ca 2+ in ER; later on, it is toxic to pancreatic β-cells and finally results in these cells' death [24], [26]. Eventually, the flavonoid may interfere with the inflammation signalling cascades and positively prevent NO overproduction and its deleterious consequences in shock and ischemiareperfusion of tissue injury [27].…”
