The Implementation of IoT Based Smart Refrigerator System

Abstract: Wasted food due to spoilage is a critical resource issue. Food waste or food loss is food that is discarded or lost uneaten. Currently, in the world, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), consumers waste about 1.3 billion tons of food annually and consumers in rich countries waste about 222 million tons of food products Once food products are purchased and set aside in a refrigerator , the users do not alert about their food items' expiration date and/or freshness unle… Show more

“…The data collection and analysis in this field is dependent on the smart sensors and IoT, which has the ability to share information over multiple platforms. These trends are supported by the research going on in the field of VLSI, coming up with a cost‐effective, power‐efficient, and interfacing capable module 102 . ESP8266‐XX (0–13) has many variants, and ESP8266‐13 is the most expensive and latest of them with maximum features.…”

“…The authors claimed their sensorbased approach is cheaper than software-based system and useful for deprived area. Nasir et al [4] merged the idea of IoT and smart kitchen to develop a smart refrigeration system which consists of 3 modules such as sensing, control and transmission module. All modules together determine the food quality and condition of the refrigerator by notifying via SMS or email.…”

“…This concept can be applied through ARM processors using embedded C-language in KEIL software [11] the user is notified via SMS if the fridge is low on items and an online link to buy the products is mentioned in the SMS. An efficient user notification interface can be designed by the use of 'pushbullet' software which is monitored by IoT platform 'Thinkspeak' and a paper is published using this concept for reference [12]. Researchers also applied artificial intelligence concept for a better performance and age detection feature of foods in the fridge.…”
