The Impact of Shear Gap Size on the Quality of the Sheared Surface in Electrical Steel Sheet Blanking

Abstract: The quality of the sheared surface when blanking, also known as die-cutting, is the result of several factors. Based on current knowledge about blanking, the following technological parameters – shear gap size, blunting of the shearing tool, lubrication in the shearing process, and deformation rate – can be considered as decisive parameters on the quality of the sheared surface. The main material characteristics include yield strength, tensile strength, ductility, and ferrite grain size. The paper is focused o… Show more

“…Among these parameters, the most important are: forming speed, step size, tool diameter, forming angle, rotational speed of the tool, tool shape, and coating [10,11]. Moreover, the choice of an appropriate lubricant depends on the deformation mechanisms that characterise the process [12][13][14]. The accuracy of SPIFshaped drawpieces also depends on the anisotropy of the material's mechanical properties and the springback phenomenon [15,16].…”

“…Many physicochemical processes take place during forming which play a key role in the quality of the product obtained, the tooling lifetime or the accuracy of the shape of the formed product [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. There are phenomena in the contact zone that are impacted by many variables, such as the macro- and microgeometry of the contact surfaces, pressure, processing temperature, type and viscosity of the lubrication used, die structure, topography and physicochemical phenomena of the contact surfaces, and load dynamics [ 4 , 5 , 6 ].…”
