The impact of sea surface currents in wave power potential modeling

Abstract: The impact of sea surface currents to the estimation and modeling of wave energy potential over an area of increased economic interest, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, is investigated in this work. High-resolution atmospheric, wave, and circulation models, the latter downscaled from the regional Mediterranean Forecasting System (MFS) of the Copernicus marine service (former MyOcean regional MFS system), are utilized towards this goal. The modeled data are analyzed by means of a variety of statistical tools meas… Show more

“…Wave-current interaction has been a topic of many studies recently (Ardhuin et al, 2008;Mellor, 2003Mellor, , 2008Mellor, , 2011Kumar et al, 2012;Michaud et al, 2012;Zodiatis et al, 2015). “…In addition to the downscaled ocean data, the quality of the wind estimate is found to be critical in reproducing both the oil evaporation and the slick motion toward the coast. Zodiatis et al (2015) assess the impact of sea surface currents on surface waves, and in particular on wave energy potential. The study is conducted over a coastal area of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea in a downscaled domain from the CMEMS (Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service) ocean estimates.…”

“…These days, the energy providers are found to be the biggest wellspring of pollution within the atmosphere. There are numerous sorts of destructive results which come about because of the procedure of conversion of the fossil fuels into energy [65]. Some of these incorporate water pollution, air pollution, increase in the solid waste emulated by the human illness and land degradation.…”

“…The conversion process of the wave power is maybe the minimum meddlesome of all the technologies associated with the renewable energy. Wave power is found to be ecologically friendly [65]. It doesn't make any waste, does not have any carbon dioxide emanations or other foundation of pollutants, there is no visual impact, noise pollution and hence, it doesn't undermine marine life.…”
