The Impact of Node Location Imperfections on the Reliability of Single-Layer Steel Domes

Abstract: This study is an attempt to assess the effect of node location imperfections on the reliability dome. The analysis concerns a single-layer steel lattice dome that is very sensitive to node snap-through. The load-displacement path of the structure was determined using the program, Finite Element Method-Krata. To determine the failure probability, reliability index, and elasticity index, the first-order reliability method approximation method was employed. The reliability analysis was conducted with Numpress Exp… Show more

“…Depending on the arrangement of the rods, the structures can be divided into several groups (dome patterns), i.e., Kiewit domes, Lamella domes, Schwedler domes, and others. The research on standard steel domes concerns increasing the load capacity of the structure of the load-bearing capacity of the structure [1] and methods of taking into account the impact of non-uniform loads [2][3][4][5][6] or imperfections [7][8][9]. Most of the research focuses on optimization design [10,11], stability analysis [12,13], and reliability analysis [14,15].…”

“…The role of partial safety factors is to ensure the required level of structural reliability. Probabilistic approximation (FORM [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ], SORM [ 7 , 8 , 9 ]) or simulation (Monte Carlo, Importance Sampling [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]) are an extension of the semi-probabilistic limit state method. The probabilistic approach allows a more accurate and more realistic description of materials, geometric parameters and loads, acting on structures by specifying the type of probability distribution and its parameters.…”
