Assessment of the Effect of Wind Load on the Load Capacity of a Single-Layer Bar Dome

Abstract: The main purpose of the paper was the assessment of the effect of wind load on the load capacity of a single-layer bar dome. Additionally, which numerical method is appropriate for low-rise single-layer bar domes was checked. In order to explain the effect of the height-to-span ratio on the selection of the appropriate calculation model and method of analysis of the bar dome, an example of the known von Mises truss was proposed. Two cases of von Mises truss differing in the height-to-span ratio were considered… Show more

“…At this stage of the research, the accuracy of the obtained results was assumed based on the knowledge and experience of the article's authors in engineering design. It should be noted that these results are of the same order as the results available in the literature 38 , 39 . The results have not been verified by any other method or software.…”

“…Depending on the arrangement of the rods, the structures can be divided into several groups (dome patterns), i.e., Kiewit domes, Lamella domes, Schwedler domes, and others. The research on standard steel domes concerns increasing the load capacity of the structure of the load-bearing capacity of the structure [1] and methods of taking into account the impact of non-uniform loads [2][3][4][5][6] or imperfections [7][8][9]. Most of the research focuses on optimization design [10,11], stability analysis [12,13], and reliability analysis [14,15].…”

“…The discrepancies between different FE types were very slight. (10) In Table 11, the first natural frequencies for the p4 model are complied. The selected modes of natural vibration are shown in Figures 16-19.…”

“…In the past, the stress analyses of domes were performed analytically; hence, the analyses were affected by strong assumptions of the shell theories, concerning, e.g., the methods of modeling the boundary conditions and the loads, keeping the rotationally symmetric property of the problem [5,6]. Currently, due to the limitations of the analytical approach, FEM analysis is usually used; see [7][8][9][10]. In some studies, the quasi-brittle behavior of the materials from which the domes are constructed is also taken into account; cf.…”
