There is a need to determine the performance benefits that firms gain from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and the factors that contribute to success. Consequently, the central research problem is:To determine the impact of ERP systems on organisational performance by analysing achieved ERP benefits within the framework of a suitable performance measurement system (PMS), and to investigate the association between critical success factors (CSFs) and ERP benefits.A list of expected ERP benefits and CSFs is compiled. Performance measurement models are evaluated, and one model is designed to evaluate ERP impact. ERP experts refine identified ERP benefits and CSFs using structured interviews. These are built into a questionnaire, and used to survey South African (SA) companies in manufacturing, mining, and power generation.Results indicate that business benefits are realised by companies that implement ERP systems. By building benefits into the performance measurement model, a positive impact on organisational performance is observed. Although a core list of CSFs is identified, and three associations are found between CSFs and ERP benefits, further research is needed. The Internet of Things: a security point of view

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide an in-depth overview of the security requirements and challenges for Internet of Things (IoT) and discuss security solutions for various enabling technologies and implications to various applications. Design/methodology/approach – Security requirements and solutions are analysed based on a four-layer framework of IoT on sensing layer, network layer, service layer, and application layer. The cross-layer threats are analysed followed by the security discussion for the enabling technologies including identification and tracking technologies, WSN and RFID, communication, networks, and service management. Findings – IoT calls for new security infrastructure based on the new technical standards. As a consequence, new security design for IoT shall pay attention to these new standards. Security at both the physical devices and service-applications is critical to the operation of IoT, which is indispensable for the success of IoT. Open problems remain in a number of areas, such as security and privacy protection, network protocols, standardization, identity management, trusted architecture, etc. Practical implications – The implications to various applications including supervisory control and data acquisition, enterprise systems, social IoT are discussed. The paper will serve as a starting point for future IoT security design and management. The security strategies for IoT should be carefully designed by managing the tradeoffs among security, privacy, and utility to provide security in multi-layer architecture of IoT. Originality/value – The paper synthesizes the current security requirements for IoT and provides a clear framework of security infrastructure based on four layers. Accordingly, the security requirements and potential threats in the four-layer architecture are provided in terms of general devices security, communication security, network security, and application security.

Purpose: This study was set up to examine the mediating role of ERP system on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and organizational performance.Design/methodology/approach: To examine the hypothesized model developed for this study, the survey quantitative research design was employed. For that, the data were collected from Dubai police departments. Out of 150 questionnaires distributed, 111 usable questionnaires were returned. Employing the partial least squares structural equation modeling for data analysis.Findings: Based on the statistical results, the effect of entrepreneurial orientation and enterprise resource planning on organizational performance were confirmed. In addition, ERP was found to partially mediate the effect of EO on organizational performance. Further details and valuable implications of this study were discussed throughout the study. Practical implications:The results of this study have many practical implications. The results will help managers to take the proper decision when deciding to implement ERP system in their organizations. The ERP can help managers with strong EO to achieve the maximum performance in organizations and to remain competitive in the market. Originality/value:This study is considered one of the very few empirical studies that examine the effect of EO on ERP and the mediating effect of ERP on the EO-performance relationship.
