The impact of Border policy effect on cross-border ethnic areas

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Boundary effect analysis is related to border policy making in the cross-border ethnic area. The border effect literatures show that geographic boundaries have obvious impacts on economic, social and cultural relations in both sides of a nation border. Particularly in cross-border ethnic areas, each ethnic group has strong internal spatial structure relevance, and the boundary effect is more obvious. However, most of China's border areas are cross-border ethnic areas, each of border issues is unique. … Show more

“…For instance, the nature of the contiguous borders that link enduring rivalry dyads was analyzed by modeling the ease of interaction and salience using GIS data [27]. Another example is the identification of the areas of high porosity or high permeability for pedestrians along the southern national border region in Carinthia, Austria, using geo-computational analysis and terrain, land use, and road system data [28].The impact of border policy effect on people's daily life for border management was studied with the help of GIS-based analysis, such as a case study of cross-border ethnic areas of China-Burma [29]. Land use and cover change in border areas were also analyzed, such as twin-cities on the Russian-Chinese border [30], land cover change in China's neighboring countries from 2001 to 2009 [31] .…”

“…As a result, the unique spatial location advantages of the border areas have gradually become apparent and the intermediary effect continuously strengthens (Newman & Paasi, 1998). Both sides of the national borderlands are becoming important spaces (or bridge tower) for international economy, trade, exchanges, and cooperation, and the social and economic development of border areas has been significantly improved (Bie et al, 2013; Medeiros, 2020). Since the 1990s, geopolinomical relations have taken on a new pattern with global regional cooperation, which has also brought about rapid and widespread borderlands LUCC (Kupková et al, 2019; Perz et al, 2013; Xiao et al, 2021).…”
