Noise measurements are usually carried out in developed areas as well as in the surroundings of traffic routes providing basis for actions in order to limit its influence on the neighboring areas. Noise measurements in park areas are rare due to belief that these areas are silent zones. Such attitude cannot be justified. This article aims to the assessment of noise appearing in determined subzones of the spa park in Inowrocław. From the research carried out it can be noticed that traffic noise does not have any important meaning for the acoustic climate of the park. It is the people who stay there who generate more noise. Comparative analysis proves the appearance and penetration of noise from the zones with greater level of noise to the ones with lower amount.

Approaches to Outdoor Thermal Comfort Thresholds through Public Space Design: A Review

Based on the Köppen Geiger (KG) classification system, this review article examines existing studies and projects that have endeavoured to address local outdoor thermal comfort thresholds through Public Space Design (PSD). The review is divided into two sequential stages, whereby (1) overall existing approaches to pedestrian thermal comfort thresholds are reviewed within both quantitative and qualitative spectrums; and (2) the different techniques and measures are reviewed and framed into four Measure Review Frameworks (MRFs), in which each type of PSD measure is presented alongside its respective local scale urban specificities/conditions and their resulting thermal attenuation outcomes. The result of this review article is the assessment of how current practices of PSD within three specific subcategories of the KG 'Temperate' group have addressed microclimatic aggravations such as elevated urban temperatures and Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects. Based upon a bottom-up approach, the interdisciplinary practice of PSD is hence approached as a means to address existing and future thermal risk factors within the urban public realm in an era of potential climate change.

The diurnal variations of O 3 and NO 2 in an urban park and the effects of air temperature and wind speed on the diurnal variations are investigated. O 3 and NO 2 concentrations were observed at a site in an urban park of Seoul from 27 July 2015 to 9 August 2015. The O 3 and NO 2 concentrations observed in the urban park are compared to those observed at the Gangnam air quality monitoring station (AQMS). The O 3 concentration is higher in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS in the daytime because the amount of O 3 dissociated by NO is smaller as well as partly because the amount of O 3 produced in the oxidation process of biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is larger in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS. The NO 2 concentration is lower in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS during day and night because the observation site in the urban park is relatively far from roads where NO x is freshly emitted from vehicles. The difference in NO 2 concentration is larger in the daytime than in the nighttime. To examine the effects of air temperature and wind speed on the diurnal variations of O 3 and NO 2 , the observed O 3 and NO 2 concentrations are classified into high or low air temperature and high or low wind speed days. The high O 3 and NO 2 concentrations in the daytime appear for the high air temperature and low wind speed days. This is because the daytime photochemical processes are favorable when the air temperature is high and the wind speed is low. The scatter plots of the daytime maximum O 3 and minimum NO 2 concentrations versus the daytime averages of air temperature and wind speed show that the daytime maximum O 3 and minimum NO 2 concentrations tend to increase as the air temperature increases or the wind speed decreases. The daytime maximum O 3 concentration is more sensitive to the changes in air temperature and wind speed in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS.
