“…Studies have revealed that the clinical component of nursing education has been stressful for students (Beck & Srivastava, 1991;Davitz, 1972;Fox & Diamond, 1965;Lindop, 1991;Pagana, 1988). Some of the stressors identified by nursing students in the studies are initial clinical experience (Selleck, 1982;Zweig, 1988); lack of clinical knowledge and experience to accomplish tasks (Beck & Srivastava;Parkes, 1985); use of technical equipment (Clarke & Ruffin, 1992); taking responsibility and making mistakes (Grassi-Russo & Morris, 1981;Kleehammer, Hart, & Keck, 1990); care of dying patients and fear of the unknown (Parkes); fear of harming a patient (Wilson, 1994); pressure of time when performing nursing duties, unfriendly atmosphere on the units, and aloof attitude of senior staff (Lindop); interacting with instructors (Selleck); patient hostility and feelings of being rejected by clients (Elfert, 1976); and evaluation of clinical performance (Davitz;Wang, 1991).…”
