Erythrodiol, is a naturally abundant biologically active triterpenoid. It is the biosynthetic precurso r of pentacyclic oleanae-type triterpenic acids in plants. This is a dihydroxy triterpenoid having beta-amyrin type fused pentacyclic (6-6-6-6-6) carbon skeleton Herein, we have reviewed the various plant resources of this oleanane-type triterpenoid erythrodiol. Various pharamacological activities of erythrodiol have also been discussed.

Volumen XXXVII, Fasciculus VII (1954) -Xo. 248-249. 2145 unter Wasserstoff geschiittelt. Nachdem 1,65 1 Wasserstoff (ber. fur 6 Atonie) aufgenommen waren, filtrierte man vom Katalysator ab und dampfte das Filtrat im Vakuum ein. Nach Zusatz von 100 cm3 Wasser entfernte man mittels k h e r olige Verunreinigungen und stellte die wasserige Losung alkalisch. Die weitere Aufarbeitung ergab 5,3 g (31, welches in Isopropylather gelost 4,2 g Pliittchen vom Smp. 74-76O lieferte. Die Mikroanalysen wurden in unseren Mikroanalytischen Laboratorien untcr der Leitung von Dr. H. Gysel dnrchgefiihrt. SUMMARY.A series of new piperidine derivatives substituted in the 2position has been prepared and tested pharmacologically. Mitteilungl).Trotz zahlreicher Versuche war es bisher nicht gelungen, die Chinovasiiure (Ia rIb)2) mit anderen Triterpen-Verbindungen experimentell zu verknupfen3). Es konnte aber auf Grund von Abbaureaktionen fur die Chinovassure der gleiche Bau des Kohlenstoffgerustes wie fur die Vertreter der a-Amyrin-Ursolsliure-Gruppe abgeleitet werden2a) (vgl. Formel XI11 des a-Amyrins). Die fruheren Versuche zur konfigurativen Verknupfung der Chinovasaure mit dieser Untergruppe der Triterpene blieben erfolglos infolge der uberraschend l ) 179. Mitt.
