The hydrophobicity improvement of high voltage insulator based on epoxy polysiloxane and rice husk ash compound

Abstract: The hydrophobicity on surface of insulator material in outdoor is very important. In humid and the rainy conditions, the insulator surface must not easily wet, so that the surface conductivity of insulators remain low, thus the surface leakage current is very small. Therefore the polymeric insulator must be hydrophobic and withstand against environmental conditions. This paper presents the effect of polysiloxane content upon contact angle and the hydrophobicity of high voltage insulator made of epoxy resins, p… Show more

“…Therefore, transmission loss is reduced during their service‐lives. In addition, polymer materials have the advantage of providing design flexibility, because they can be easily molded into any shape and any size 1–5 . However, when such a polymeric insulator is used for a long period of time, the surface of the polymer is deteriorated by not only electrical stress but also environmental stress such as UV, temperature, humidity, and dust, and the surface hydrophobicity is lowered.…”

“…To determine the performance of surface material made of epoxy resin filler mixture of silicon rubber and silica under severe pollution, then tested the electrical tracking refers to the Inclined Plane Tracking test methods according to standards IEC 587, with duration of voltage application for 6, 12 and 18 minutes. Research on epoxy resin material performance under severe conditions has also been studied by [3] using natural and artificial aging in the laboratory for 96 hours with ultraviolet light. In this report, hydrophobic contact angle will be discussed before and after surface tracking test.…”
