“…This interpretative, qualitative and iterative study derived from a social constructionist epistemology provides that realities within social contexts are created by and negotiated through language (Lester & O'Reilly, 2016; O'Reilly et al, 2016). Predicated on principles of disability rights and inclusion (Della Fina & Cera, 2015; Lim, 2020), this study is informed by a neurodiversity and social model of disability framework that posits an assumption of cogency in relation to its subjects (den Houting, 2019).…”

“…The orthographic transcripts of the interviewsshowing the content of the interviews in terms of what was said by the interlocutorsavailable from Women's Memorial Foundation Oral History Program and the Library of Congress have been supplemented with more detailed interactional symbols following Jefferson (2004) to convey a better sense of the complex interactional dynamics of the interview discourse. Another reason for a more detailed yet simplified Jeffersonian transcription was the fact that the analysis focuses both on what as well as how of the interaction in accordance with the tenets of discourse analysis (Antaki et al 2003) The interviews used in the study are analysed with the methods of discourse analysis (DA) (Lester & O'Reilly 2016) andas pointed out abovethe focus falls not only on what is talked about but also on "what is analytically sayable about the participants' talk" (Kitzinger 2000: 123). DA is based on the assumption that any "discourse exhibits recurrent patterns" (Herring 2004: 342) and thus the role of analyst is to identify them.…”
