The histology and immunohistochemistry of free buccal mucosa and full‐skin grafts after exposure to urine

Abstract: Objective To investigate the histological and immunohinecrosis and two ulcerations. Conversely, the 10 buccal mucosal grafts had fewer pathological findings stochemical behaviour of free buccal mucosa and fullskin grafts after exposure to urine.(three minimal inflammation and three with scars) and a pronounced similarity on immunoMaterials and methods A buccal mucosal graft and a full-skin graft were freely transferred into the bladder histochemistry. Conclusion The buccal mucosal graft showed signifiof 12 min… Show more

“…Layering of the integrated transplant remained the same as that of genuine buccal mucosa, consisting of thick sheets of nonkeratinized squamous epithelium. Similar findings were reported in animal tests after buccal mucosa engraftment in the bladder 13 and urethra. 14,18,19 The average interval from previous to current buccal mucosa urethroplasty was limited to 22.2 months in the current study.…”

“…In some reports, buccal mucosal graft has been considered as the gold standard for urethroplasty (137). The buccal mucosal graft appears to result in better clinical and histological healing compared with skin grafts (138), and the formed tissue resembles histologically the original urethral lining. Another advantage is that the mucosal grafts Therapeutic potential of gingival fibroblasts 9 are relatively easy to harvest in sufficient amounts for the re-construction.…”

“…Buccal mucosa graft is easy to harvest and trim, more resistant to infection than skin, flexible and has thick lamina propria and excellent microvasculature favourable for graft inosculation 16 . The natural location of BMG in oral environment favours easy adaptability in the urethral passage, thus giving long term results 62,63,[69][70] . Buccal mucosa is the recommended substitute in patients with lichen sclerosis (BXO) as it is not involved in this provess 71 .…”
