The High Energy Materials Science Beamline (HEMS) at PETRA III

Abstract: The HEMS beamline at PETRA III has a main energy of 120 keV, is tunable in the range 30-200 keV, and optimized for sub-micrometer focusing with Compound Refractive Lenses. Design, construction, and main funding was the responsibility of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, HZG. Approximately 70 % of the beamtime is dedicated to Materials Research, the rest reserved for “general physics” experiments covered by DESY, Hamburg. The beamline P07 in sector 5 consists of an undulator source optimized for high energies, … Show more

“…The principal of Slit Imaging was used which consists of the determination of the strains based on the shift of the measured diffracted peak relative to the peak position of an unstressed sample [34]. At the beamline P07 [35] used for strain measurements a conical slit setup was available. The use of conical slits was first described in [36]: it consists of a plate with a series of concentric conical apertures that allows monitoring simultaneously a series of complete diffraction rings emanating from the same gauge volume.…”

“…The difference between the nominal and the experimental compositions is less than 0.5%. X-ray diffraction structure factors of the Ge x As 10 Se 90-x glasses were measured at the P07 high energy materials science beamline [29] at PETRA III synchrotron storage ring …”

“…Complementary microstructural characterisation using highenergy x-ray diffraction (HEXRD) was carried out at the HZG beamline HEMS at the Deutsches Electronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg, Germany [22]. Samples with height of 4 mm were measured in transmission using a beam cross section of 1 mm  1 mm.…”
